Karin Ursula Gopinath
I was born in Brandenburg, East Germany, fled to the west and lived in Berlin, Zurich and Munich before I immigrated to America in 1967. I lived and worked for 25 plus years as a registered ICU nurse in New Jersey. In 1980-1981, I spent a year in California where I attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. This was my first serious exposure to art education.
My interest was sculpture and ceramics which I pursue with passion to this day. Returning back east, I attended Rutgers University to continue my education in sculpture and photography. I worked with metal, wood, clay and found objects.
After moving to Los Angeles, my work is mostly in ceramics, again with strong orientation towards sculpture and architectural forms. In nature, I find my most profound inspirations: colors, forms, textures, surprises, dramas, and delights.
I create art because I must.
